Going back to Afropunk with a new frame of mind made me enjoy it way more than I did the day before. I embraced all that it had to offer. I stood for a second watching the people but this time not in aww but happy that I got the chance to witness it all. Happy at seeing all the diversity of people. Happy to know that everyone was welcomed with know questions asked.Still slightly in aww by the people and their way of dress, with camera in hand I forced myself to pay attention to the music. Before taking in the first performance of the day there was a dance pretty. As the music played the people came. What started as a small group quickly became half of the parks field being taking up by moving bodies. Dances circles formed.People cheering on strangers and friends who stepped in the center to show their moves. It was all such a beautiful thing Now on the the MUSIC! Armed with camera in hand my first performance of the day was Angel Haze. She got BARS!!! It was my first time seeing her perform and I glad I got the chance wit witness her in action. After checking out the tricycle races again I made my way to the gold stage. Somehow the day before I didn’t know it existed but I decided to stay there for the rest of the day and I was glad I did. The next artist I caught was Gallant.HE SANG HIS ASS OFF!!! I was giving me bits of 90s r&b and Prince. Anyone who gives you bits of Prince in their on original way is a keeper. I was definitely googling him the next day for more. Once his performance was done I slowly squeezed my way towards the front and Dj Esta began playing. Boy Oh Boy!!! If there could have been a roof that he could hypothetically tear off, he did the damn thing. Not one soul near the gold stage wasn’t dancing. Playing a mixture of 90s classics, trap remixes and all thing in between….He was unstoppable. Next up was my newly discovered fav Kelela. She gave so much soul. The group of ladies I was standing next to me knew every word the pretty much every song she sang. She has so many levels to her voice it was amazing. Her song “Send Me Out” was stuck in head *in a good way* even after I listened to it. The nights main attraction for me was The Internet. We were all sooooooo excited to see them live. The crowd swayed together and sang together. Tyler the Creator was in the cut singing along enjoy himself too .We didn’t want it to end, so much so that the crowd started to scream Encore!
Sadly it didn’t happen but we can always try right.
Stay Tune in to the Snapchat & IG because its the time again…. New York Fashion Week!
I went into it totally wrong. Thinking this is just a typical concert/music festival my mindset wasn’t able to appreciate it for what it actually is. It’s a celebration of music. It’s a celebration of being proud of who you are. It’s a celebration of creativity. It’s a celebration of blackness. There is totally no judgement. Wear what you wanna wear. Show out for your peers, express your passion & creativity through you. And let me tell you it was definitely a fashion show to be seen.So many different hair styles & colors. So many pieces of artistic jewelry and patterned outfits it was truly site to see. Honestly I was so busy looking at how people were dress I barely paid to much attention to the musical acts. The acts I did get attention to pay attention to were definitely worth it. The first one I caught sight of was Qassim & The Juggernaut War Party. Their style and music was completely unique.Their energy never seemed to end. It seriously looked like a party on stage that you wish were apart of.I mean technically you were but not lol. As I wander aimlessly around passing market area which had amazing finds (sadly I only had cash for food) I stumbled upon Toyota Music Renegade Lab. They had a bunch of cool activities like turning cds in to records that actually play music, making a mini music video and marble body art. Continuing to wander, I found the tricycle race. It is a very entertaining thing to matching adults race each other on tricycles. The next performance I caught was of Trash Talk a rock band from California. Honestly I wasn’t ready for them. I had no clue what to expect but boy did I get a lot. The voice powerful, the band on point, the excitement of the crowd…Unbelievable!
There were mosh pits left & right, people crowd suffering, and jumping off of the stage. At point he told everybody to leave the park and they left only to run back in a create another huge mosh pit.
After all of that I just stayed in one spot to not only recuperate but to wait for Tyler The Creator. While awaiting The Creator we were blessed with tunes from DJ Yaadcore of Jamica , giving use reggae and Rastafarian vibes. Once his set was done it was time for Tyler and once again I wasn’t ready. And not for Tyler *I’m always ready for him* but the crowd! Myself & others were pushed and pulled like a trapped school of fish from people behind use trying to get closer to the stage.
It got so bad that security had to help people over the barricade just so they wouldn’t get squashed to death * Yes I’m being a 5% dramatic but it was real*. Once the pushing calmed down. I was able to take in all the awesomeness of the performance. Once it was done I went home lol. There were other acts performing but after what I just survived I needed to rest.
As per usual check the Snapchat & @in_attendance IG for pics & random fun stuff.
Get Gimme Da Light!!!! The Day & Night Experience courtesy of Grand Marnier was as the kids say it LIT! There was good food, great looking people and of course AMAZING MUSIC.
That evening began with one of their three signature cocktails: The Perfect Storm, grand Raspberry Peach Spiked Lemonade and Grand Old Fashion…I drank them in that order lol. Then came the legend Sean Paul to the stage. He was everything I imagined. Just as much energy as his videos.
We all sang along, jumped and wined to every song. After mister Dutty Paul was done the party wasn’t over. The Knocks took the stage. Sadly I couldn’t stay for their performance but I knew it wouldn’t be the last time I see them.
Grand Marnier gave one of the best days ever and I look forward to more just like this one.
As usual check the snapchat Inattendance & just for the blog Instagram: @In_Attendance
I first seem Shamir on the stage singing along with Kitten. All artist that night were new to me but when he appear I stood there wondering who is he…Cut to recently, courtesy of Samsung, I had the chance to see him again this time performing all of his own original material. I know longer questioned who he was.
Shamir performed songs from his new soon to be released album Ratchet and I must say everything that he presented was awesome. Literally every song he sang from his album had people dancing in there seats or singing along. I describe his music as a mix of pop, house, groove and happy…And who do like happy!?! Without even knowing it I already knew one of his song, which was great because I could actually sing along properly lol.
He let us into his world for the night and it was awesome. When you get a chance check out some of his music videos. They are very animated, colorful & he even got turned into a puppet.
Check him out when you get a chance and as always check the Snapchat: Inattendance and the new Instagram just for the blog @in_attendance . I post pictures a lot faster on there lol. ENJOY!
It’s a Ning Thing.
I like thing that express some sort of mood and that what Kenneth Ning did for me. His collection reminded me of my past inner goth moment but with a much more fashionable approach. The coats and jackets were my favorites. The detailing with the big zippers and sliver holes gave it that end.Another winning piece was a stand alone two piece suit posted dead front and center.
God bless the company 1Iota for providing fans with the opportunity to attend shows & concerts for free. So like the title says (obviously) I was waitlisted and not just for anything, but The Walking Dead Fan Premire. Magicly I was no longer on the waiting list the morning of the event (YAY!!!) and it was amazeballz times 10 plus 100. First they gave us a Walking Dead landyard with tattoos, let us watch the first episode of season 6 and brought out cast members past & present for Q&A. Of course the main cast was there (and the whole entire crew who makes the show happen: Thank You Guys!!!) but one of the best moments for me was when they brought my fav Shane, his sexy self. The cast played games, watched blooper reels and even looked at a few baby pictures (Aww so cute). Now seeing as how I have never had the chance to attend a panel for it at Comic Con this made up for everything. I can truly say that it was one for best moments of 2015 for me. I would love to tell ya all about the goods of the show but I sign a NDA so you’ll just have to watch with the rest of the world. Thanks again to 1Iota, you make my life more eventful. Don’t forget to follow my Snapchat: Inattendance for all the live action at these events
Kelly Cutrone said Hi to me!!!! Well it was more like “Hi Guys” but it was only 4 of us standing there & I was part of said 4 so yeah, put that in you pocket! To me Francesca’s collection screamed “I’m ready for Fall”. Black and orange were the main colors of her pieces along with bits of cream, white, burgundy & glittered anatomically correct hearts. Sheer fabrics & cut outs exposed skin, long coats & dresses covered it up and all the while giving you pure sexy but classy. Power to the Body! As normal pics are below & check out the blog of the lovely Shannon Moody: Fashion Nexus ,who provided me with access to the amazing shows I attended.
