Not to be confused with the movie about the vagina eating penises… Yup thats an actual movie and I’ve seen it but im talking about the ones in your mouth. Many take for granted or just dont pay attention to the teeth they have and wait forever to either get them checked or taken out. Cut to November/December 2016, after a forever struggle with getting consistent health insurance, I got some *Thanks Obama*. I go get a cleaning and am told i need fillings. Okay Im down for it. The first dentist failed at properly doing the job and I ended up with gaps and a crack filling literally within the 3 weeks time of getting them done. January 2017, I decided to go to a different dentist with fingers crossed and pray they can fix what was sadly done. NYU School of Dentistry is full of student dentists and fully licensed dentist all looking to teach as well as fix what ever is wrong with your mouth. Now you maybe thinking student dentists “Oh Hell Nah!!!” but look they have learn from somewhere, they are back by a full faculty and for half the price of what you would pay at a regular one, I say do your part and teach the people. They happily fix all my missed up fillings and pull a very unhappy wisdom tooth. The tooth some how started to decay from within, with much of its outter enamel fully intact. Glady I had no pain during or directly after the pulling and only popped a total of 4 painkillers. I like being proactive. The most fascinating thing about this said tooth pulling is seeing my xrays. For some reason my lower wisdom teeth decided to grow in underneath my gum and sideways. One dentist stared at my xrays in awe and in disbelief that I’ve never had any issues with them. He made me feeling like one of those patients on Greys Anatomy that has a condition only 1 in 25,000 people have. Yup I was special 😄 lol. Of course they want to pull them out too but im gonna wait a while to get that done. One dentist mentions weeks of pain and my brain was like NOPE!!! So people please go get you teeth checked ASAP before you tolerance of pain disappears.
Side Bar: I’ve been MIA on here because I been saving up for an awesome vacation. Even thought most of the event I attend are free I tend to spend a lot on eating out, Ubers/Lyfts and the dentist lol. Saving every penny counts! See ya soon & GO TO THE DENTIST!!!!
Kotaku and io9 held their first Cosplay Ball in New York presented by Drangon Ball Xenoverse 2. I was uber excited to go but sadly lacked in cosplay get up because I am such a procrastinator. But have no fear! My Harry Potter jumper seriously can in handy and I went as Harmonie. Held at Studio 17 there was music by Dj Cutman, a photobooth, food, drinks and even a 3D printing station.I really had a great time. I met some really cool people, seen cool cosplay and awesome performance by the Fantastic Plastics. There was even a cosplay contest that I sadly missed because I was filling my face with cupcakes and cookies but congrats to the winners! Hopefully they have another one next year because I will definitely be there.
Click HERE to see some photos from the photobooth. Enjoy!!!
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that there is not an open door for you in New York City because they’re always is.Whether it’s a restaurant, clothing store or a bar, the door is always open especially with galleries. Coming upon Highland Park walking past a building full of windows with the door wide open was the Allouche Gallery. What caught my eye was a huge sculpture by Faile standing in the window *it kind of reminded me of Alison in Wonderland with a skateboard* and I thought to myself how could I not going in.
There were so many cool and thought provoking pieces I couldn’t help but take pictures of almost everything. So if by chance you ever come up on a building with a cool peace of anything in the window is the door open walk on in. I shall continue to welcome this open door policy by walking into any door that’s open. Hopefully I’ll end up in a celebrities apartment LMAO!!!!

.About 5 hours….that’s how long we: me and the hundreds of ppl waited to get into Refinery 29’s 29Rooms. 29Rooms is an art & fashion fun house made up with celebrity collaborations steaming from topics of beauty, music, the environment, etc; with each room carrying a different theme. The doors opened at 11am and I got there at 12. I already knew I was going to wait about 2 hour to get it but that was a mental understatement. The line wrapped around the building in a loop and just like every pop-up experience I kept telling myself with the sun beating down on body, the motto: YOLO! Literally about 30 mins from the entrance I was giving a scratch card to hopefully skip the line. Sure enough, blessed from the heavens and foot gods below it was the winning card. Extremely excited I gather the people around me who I chatted with for the 5 hours to skip the line and race inside….”WE MADE IT!!!!” We all screamed & took celebratory pics but once we entered I caught a glimpse of something as I stared into the main hall…MORE FUCKING LINES!!!
To be honest it wasn’t that bad but it’s just the freaking principal!!! Now the main question of this entire experience: Was it worth it?
Yes: because I met some really cool people, 29Rooms was definitely something to be seen and I can say I went & never have to go again & No: because after all of it I didn’t get to see all 29 rooms because of more fucking lines and the memory magically got misplaced after that so I could post when I wanted but I found it. So here are the rooms I made it to…Enjoy!!!
Pop Up anythings are awesome but even more so when it involves icecream. Visiting New York is the pop up Museum of Icecream. This was on of the hardest to get a ticket too. When I first found about it and checked the site to get a ticket they weren’t for sale yet. So I checked the week it was supposed to open and it was SOLD OUT!!! Everyday, everytime for the whole summer. Gladly I signed up for the news letter so when they extended their stay jumped at the chance. In the process the damn website crashed on me like 8 times before I was able to snatch my ticket up. It was such a cute & tasty little museum. Right upon entering they give you icecream. Just a few steps away, you receive what I call a “sugar bubble” filled with helium. You can suck in all the helium for the funny voice and eat the collapsed bubble if you want. They actually had fun facts and information about icecream, high headed from inhaling the helium I took pictures of it to read later. One of the coolest things there was the pool full of sprinkles. Well not real sprinkles (that would have been unsanitary) but a pool full of soft color plastic that looked like the real thing. It was really fun to play in and you kind of sunk into it. Once out of the pool you were giving a miracle berry tablet that when eaten turns all sour foods sweet. They gave use a lemon with our icecream to test it out and if definitely didn’t disappoint.
As per usual stay tuned to the IG @in_attendance & SC: inattendance Enjoy!!!!
Going back to Afropunk with a new frame of mind made me enjoy it way more than I did the day before. I embraced all that it had to offer. I stood for a second watching the people but this time not in aww but happy that I got the chance to witness it all. Happy at seeing all the diversity of people. Happy to know that everyone was welcomed with know questions asked.Still slightly in aww by the people and their way of dress, with camera in hand I forced myself to pay attention to the music. Before taking in the first performance of the day there was a dance pretty. As the music played the people came. What started as a small group quickly became half of the parks field being taking up by moving bodies. Dances circles formed.People cheering on strangers and friends who stepped in the center to show their moves. It was all such a beautiful thing Now on the the MUSIC! Armed with camera in hand my first performance of the day was Angel Haze. She got BARS!!! It was my first time seeing her perform and I glad I got the chance wit witness her in action. After checking out the tricycle races again I made my way to the gold stage. Somehow the day before I didn’t know it existed but I decided to stay there for the rest of the day and I was glad I did. The next artist I caught was Gallant.HE SANG HIS ASS OFF!!! I was giving me bits of 90s r&b and Prince. Anyone who gives you bits of Prince in their on original way is a keeper. I was definitely googling him the next day for more. Once his performance was done I slowly squeezed my way towards the front and Dj Esta began playing. Boy Oh Boy!!! If there could have been a roof that he could hypothetically tear off, he did the damn thing. Not one soul near the gold stage wasn’t dancing. Playing a mixture of 90s classics, trap remixes and all thing in between….He was unstoppable. Next up was my newly discovered fav Kelela. She gave so much soul. The group of ladies I was standing next to me knew every word the pretty much every song she sang. She has so many levels to her voice it was amazing. Her song “Send Me Out” was stuck in head *in a good way* even after I listened to it. The nights main attraction for me was The Internet. We were all sooooooo excited to see them live. The crowd swayed together and sang together. Tyler the Creator was in the cut singing along enjoy himself too .We didn’t want it to end, so much so that the crowd started to scream Encore!
Sadly it didn’t happen but we can always try right.
Stay Tune in to the Snapchat & IG because its the time again…. New York Fashion Week!
I went into it totally wrong. Thinking this is just a typical concert/music festival my mindset wasn’t able to appreciate it for what it actually is. It’s a celebration of music. It’s a celebration of being proud of who you are. It’s a celebration of creativity. It’s a celebration of blackness. There is totally no judgement. Wear what you wanna wear. Show out for your peers, express your passion & creativity through you. And let me tell you it was definitely a fashion show to be seen.So many different hair styles & colors. So many pieces of artistic jewelry and patterned outfits it was truly site to see. Honestly I was so busy looking at how people were dress I barely paid to much attention to the musical acts. The acts I did get attention to pay attention to were definitely worth it. The first one I caught sight of was Qassim & The Juggernaut War Party. Their style and music was completely unique.Their energy never seemed to end. It seriously looked like a party on stage that you wish were apart of.I mean technically you were but not lol. As I wander aimlessly around passing market area which had amazing finds (sadly I only had cash for food) I stumbled upon Toyota Music Renegade Lab. They had a bunch of cool activities like turning cds in to records that actually play music, making a mini music video and marble body art. Continuing to wander, I found the tricycle race. It is a very entertaining thing to matching adults race each other on tricycles. The next performance I caught was of Trash Talk a rock band from California. Honestly I wasn’t ready for them. I had no clue what to expect but boy did I get a lot. The voice powerful, the band on point, the excitement of the crowd…Unbelievable!
There were mosh pits left & right, people crowd suffering, and jumping off of the stage. At point he told everybody to leave the park and they left only to run back in a create another huge mosh pit.
After all of that I just stayed in one spot to not only recuperate but to wait for Tyler The Creator. While awaiting The Creator we were blessed with tunes from DJ Yaadcore of Jamica , giving use reggae and Rastafarian vibes. Once his set was done it was time for Tyler and once again I wasn’t ready. And not for Tyler *I’m always ready for him* but the crowd! Myself & others were pushed and pulled like a trapped school of fish from people behind use trying to get closer to the stage.
It got so bad that security had to help people over the barricade just so they wouldn’t get squashed to death * Yes I’m being a 5% dramatic but it was real*. Once the pushing calmed down. I was able to take in all the awesomeness of the performance. Once it was done I went home lol. There were other acts performing but after what I just survived I needed to rest.
As per usual check the Snapchat & @in_attendance IG for pics & random fun stuff.
